About the Role
The City of Playford is one of South Australia's fastest-growing areas, welcoming around 10 new residents every day. With a forecast population of over 183,000 by 2046, this leadership role is central to supporting Playford's growth and delivering sustainable communities that promote prosperity, liveability and happiness.
The Manager Engineering Services position leads a multidisciplinary team that is responsible for facilitating the statutory civil engineering, traffic engineering and landscape architecture functions involved in building communities across our growing and established suburbs.
You will work closely with developers, government agencies, internal stakeholders and the community to ensure infrastructure is well integrated, compliant and sustainable, whilst facilitating timely land supply in one of the State's most significant growth corridors. In the 2024/25 financial year Council received 3,287 Development Applications representing $960 million in development value, reflecting the scale and pace of development occurring across Playford. This role is central to ensuring infrastructure is appropriately assessed, delivered and integrated as growth continues, helping shape the future of Playford's rapidly expanding communities.

* Strategic Leadership: Provide proactive, forward-thinking guidance to align your team with Council priorities, foster collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with developers, government agencies, internal teams, and the community, communicating complex engineering matters clearly and collaboratively.
* Infrastructure Planning & Governance: Apply civil engineering expertise to guide the planning, assessment, and delivery of high-quality, sustainable infrastructure that meets legislative and policy requirements.
* Operational Excellence: Drive continuous improvement through the development of systems, processes, and decision-making frameworks that enhance efficiency, quality and transparency.
* Risk Management & Compliance: Identify and manage risks proactively, ensuring legislative, safety, and organisational obligations are met while enabling timely infrastructure delivery.
About you
You are a strategic and collaborative leader with strong technical expertise and experience managing complex infrastructure and development environments. You excel at leading multidisciplinary teams in technical development environments and engaging internal and external stakeholders to deliver outcomes that benefit the community.
You bring:
* Strong leadership and people management skills
* Knowledge of the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016
* Expertise in development assessment, infrastructure delivery and engineering standards across both civil and traffic disciplines
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills
* Initiative, forward planning and a focus on continuous improvement.

* Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering
* National Police Clearance
* Experience working within the local government sector and knowledge of the Local Government Act 1999
