At Edge Early Learning, we’re looking for a passionate and proactive Assistant Director to join our leadership team. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves both people leadership and hands-on connection with children and educators. We are looking for someone confident with compliance and proving administrative support.
In this role, you’ll work closely with the Centre Director as their trusted 2IC, supporting day-to-day operations while driving excellence across the centre. You’ll have the chance to float between rooms, mentor teams, build relationships, and spend dedicated non-contact time developing people, practice, and culture.
And yes — you will receive 2 hours of non-contact planning time each week, with additional leadership time allocated as needed.

Your Role & Responsibilities
As Assistant Director, you will be a key leader in our centre community. Your role includes:
* Acting as the Second-in-Charge (2IC) and supporting the Centre Director with operational excellence
* Providing daily leadership, mentorship, and coaching to educators
* Floating between rooms to maintain consistency, quality, and positive team culture
* Building strong, trusting relationships with families, children, and the team
* Spending non-contact time on key leadership tasks such as rostering, compliance, team development and centre planning
* Assisting with performance management and supporting educators to achieve their potential
* Championing an uplifting, collaborative and professional workplace culture
* Being a reliable go-to leader who supports both the Centre Director and the entire team
About You
You're someone who leads with heart and purpose. You bring:
* A Diploma or Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education (or working towards
* Demonstrated leadership experience within early childhood education
* A strong understanding of the EYLF, NQS, and compliance requirements
* A genuine passion for developing educators and championing quality teaching
* Excellent communication skills and a calm, supportive leadership style
* A proactive approach and commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes
* The ability to collaborate closely with the Centre Director to achieve shared goals
What We’re Looking For
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
* Diploma or Bachelor qualification in Early Childhood Education (or ACECQA approved equivalent)
* Previous leadership or 2IC experience in an early learning setting
* Deep knowledge of EYLF, NQS and best-practice early childhood pedagogy
* Strong mentoring and team-building abilities
* Excellent interpersonal skills to connect with families, staff and children
* A positive, solution-focused attitude and commitment to excellence
