UMSU is a dynamic, purpose-driven incorporated association that represents all students at the University of Melbourne.
Governed by an elected Students' Council and twelve student departments, UMSU champions student control, creative arts, culture, and inclusive campus life.
The role
The Events and Technical Production Officer plays a key part in delivering high-quality events that enhance student life.
Working within the Events & Production team, you will support planning, implementation, and on-site delivery of UMSU's student-led programming.
Key accountabilities
* Support Student Departments in scoping and coordinating event concepts, and oversee planning, documentation, bookings, and technical compliance.
* Coordinate logistics, resources, budgets, and schedules to ensure successful event outcomes.
* Liaise with the Communication & Design Department for website and ticketing information.
* Assist on-ground delivery of student-led initiatives and weekly scheduled events.
* Lead post-event reviews and continuous improvement processes.
* Prepare reports, proposals, and correspondence on events.
* Prepare and communicate production documentation to establish technical requirements.
* Assist with equipment preparation, installation, and pack-down.
* Supervise event site, equipment, and materials to maintain security.
* Report equipment damage or failures promptly.
* Ensure all technical equipment and systems are safely set up, operated, and dismantled.
* Coordinate with UoM services and supervise casual staff and contractors (technical crew, front-of-house).

Key selection criteria
* Diploma-level qualifications in event management, sound production, or a related field.
* Experience delivering small to large-scale events, community engagement campaigns, and initiatives.
* Strong relationship-building skills with diverse stakeholders.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Highly organised, adaptable, and experienced in managing multiple projects.
* Proficient with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, project management tools, and digital communication platforms.
* Basic skills in audio and event production equipment.
* Ability to work autonomously.
* Proven ability to operate heavy equipment and comply with manual-handling standards.
* Current Victorian Driver's License.
* Valid Employee Working with Children Check.
* Experience in arts organisations, student unions, higher-education or student-led organisations.
* Understanding of student unionism, diversity, and inclusive practice.
* Ability to set up, tune and balance a sound system.
* Experience with microphones and audio mixing consoles for live entertainment.
