About the Role

An excellent opportunity is available for a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer to be based in our Kalgoorlie Office. The candidate would have recently completed or soon to be completing their degree in civil or mining engineering and be looking to advance their career with a progressive multi-disciplinary company.

Our Graduate Geotechnical Engineer will work on a range of geotechnical projects and will benefit from WML's commitment to provide exciting and challenging experiences across our engineering disciplines. The company is currently engaged in a range of open pit and underground mining, commercial and infrastructure projects in Western Australia, from which WML is able to offer a variety of project experience and interest to our graduate. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who possess a strong work ethic, can work in a team environment but also autonomously. The position requires applicant to have excellent time management and written/ verbal communication skills.

Key Responsibilities
* Under the mentorship of Senior and Principal Engineers, you will design, manage, and execute a range of geotechnical engineering investigations, working both autonomously and collaboratively.
* Prepares job proposals, including the identification of necessary resources to meet agreed program schedules, budgets, and performance targets, for review and approval by the Job Manager.
* Executes projects in accordance with the WML Consultants Integrated Management System (IMS) or, where specified, a client-provided IMS.
* Participates as an active member of project teams.
* Design and conduct field investigations.
* Prepare engineering designs for various projects, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian and Western Australian standards and codes of practice.
* Prepare engineering reports.
* Consult with approving authorities and agencies, adhering to all mandatory requirements.
* Conduct design checks on own work and review the work of others.
* Engage in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and knowledge.
* Research and incorporate innovative design solutions where appropriate.
* Contributes to the management of assigned projects across their lifecycle, from scoping and development to design, delivery, and review.
* Provides direction to drafting staff and verifies the compliance of their work.
* Participates in the development, maintenance, and improvement of project management processes and systems within the Company.
Contract Management
* Prepares contract documentation and manages the contract tendering process.
* Manages contracts and contractors to ensure completion within the approved scope, budget, schedule, and quality standards.
* Reviews and reports on the performance of both contracts and contractors.
* Contributes to the development, maintenance, and improvement of contract management processes and systems within the Company.
* Training will be provided internally and externally as and when required.
Selection Criteria
* Our applicants must have a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Civil or Mining Engineering, or a demonstrated equivalent level of skill, knowledge and experience.
* Candidates must have the right to live and work in this location.

Geotechnical Group

The Civil Group's work can be seen throughout regional WA: Large sections of the Forrest, South West and Coalfields Highways have been built and improved based on WML designs and specialist technical advice. Shires from Kalamunda to Esperance, Coolgardie and Augusta-Margaret River rely on our Civil Group's expertise in bulk earthworks, roads and intersections, landfills, drainage and project management.

Structural Group

Our structures team offers extensive experience designing with steel, reinforced concrete, timber and other less common materials. They specialise in providing customised building solutions that deliver value for money. For structures already in place, the team can devise asset integrity management plans to prioritise upgrades, repairs and replacement.

Pavements Group

Our Pavements Group combines extensive soils knowledge and comprehensive data analysis to provide sound site development solutions across the state, providing investigation and design for all types of pavements and all pavement loadings. Our pavement design services include urban and rural highways, local roads, airstrips, haul roads and industrial pavements. The team also offers materials sourcing as part of our comprehensive pavement and surfacing design capabilities. Their intimate knowledge of material characteristics and behaviour as well as their experience in locating, evaluating and managing material stocks throughout the state ensure cost-effective and durable pavement solutions.
