There are up to three opportunities available to join our dynamic and vibrant Defence project team as an EL 1 Engineering Manager based in Penrith NSW, Canberra, ACT or Rockingham, WA. You will spend your days:

* Leading the engineering and technical activities to introduce and support some of the most important and interesting weapons systems for the Royal Australian Navy.
* Maintaining effective stakeholder relationships and participate in test and evaluation activities, including with domestic and international partners.
* Investigating, analysing and reporting on engineering concepts and risks;
* Planning and delivering critical engineering activities;
* Providing advice to stakeholders;
* Enabling good inventory decisions with quality and timely engineering advice; and
* Working towards and obtaining your Engineering Delegation within six months of commencement.

Your ability to analyse and apply systems of work, government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements will be key to allowing you to deliver outcomes.

You will ensure that the effectiveness, performance and safety of these cutting edge technologies is assured, and enhanced, by working with other engineers, project managers and warfighters to deliver capability.

Please be advised, these positions are on‑site and cannot be done remotely. The positions are located at Danallam House, Penrith, NSW, Brindabella Business Park, Canberra, ACT or HMAS Stirling, WA.


About our Team

GWEO Maritime & Maintenance Branch is part of the Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance Systems Division. Our team consists of various disciplines (including engineering, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services). We are located in Canberra, Penrith, Amberley, Melbourne, Stirling and the US, and our focus is to acquire and sustain guided weapons and munitions for the Australian Defence Force.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidates will:

* Be a highly proactive and organised engineer;
* Have demonstrated experience in leading a team to deliver high quality engineering activities, including producing detailed engineering reports and artefacts, presenting information and advice to inform executive decision making;
* Have a background in mechanical, chemical or electrical engineering;
* Be a clear and concise communicator (written and verbal), strong leader and team player, able to analyse, interpret and apply engineering guidance, policy and regulations, influence stakeholders and evaluate strategies to achieve outcomes; and
* Take the initiative to resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action, whilst identifying their implications and associated risks.
