The Financial Controller will oversee and manage the financial operations of the organization. This critical leadership role involves guiding the finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and smooth operation of accounts payable, receivable, and payroll. The role is key to maintaining financial health and supporting strategic growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Deliver an accurate month-end close process within agreed deadlines.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements, reports, and analysis.
- Monitor and analyse financial performance, offering insights and recommendations.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Support the FP&A business partner in developing annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget performance and variances; implement corrective actions.
- Provide financial projections and scenario analyses for strategic planning.
Compliance Management
- Oversee tax compliance and manage relationships with external tax advisers.
- Ensure adherence to debt covenants and maintain reporting to lenders.
- Ensure payroll compliance and accurate, timely processing.
- Stay updated on relevant tax and payroll regulations.
Financial Operations
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash flow functions.
- Forecast and optimise working capital.
- Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets.
Strategic Support
- Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy and planning.
- Support growth initiatives through modelling and analysis.
- Provide decision support for major investments and changes.
- Lead and mentor a small finance team (2–3 direct reports).
- Set clear goals and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
- Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Implement and monitor risk management strategies.
ERP and Systems Management
- Oversee ERP system operations to ensure accurate data and reporting.
- Support and refine the recent ERP system implementation.
Payroll
- Maintain robust controls around payroll processes.
- Assist with month-end payroll-related tasks and statutory compliance.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements in financial processes.
- Contribute to finance system and workflow enhancements.
Administrative Support
- Maintain finance documentation per company policy.
- Provide general administrative support for finance functions.
Work Health and Safety (WHS)
- Adhere to WHS guidelines and demonstrate safe working practices.
- Cooperate with company WHS procedures and report hazards/incidents.
Attributes Required
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master's or CPA/CMA preferred).
- Proven experience as a Finance Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, tax, and payroll compliance.
- Experienced with ERP systems and financial management software.
- Effective communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement and ability to challenge the status quo.
Skills and Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of accounting standards and financial operations.
- Proficient in accounts payable, receivable, and payroll processes.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong ERP skills; WIISE or Microsoft Dynamics Business Central experience is advantageous.
