About The Opportunity
This position in Community Paediatrics-SWSLHD is specifically designed to respond to the growing needs of the vulnerable child and youth population in the district. You will join a dynamic and innovative multidisciplinary specialist team in Community Paediatrics, who provide high quality, evidence-based, culturally-responsive clinical assessment and care for children and families in need. We also undertake research to improve the health and wellbeing of children, train registrars and medical students in Community Child Health issues. The Staff Specialist Community Paediatrician role involves clinical leadership in developmental/behavioural Paediatrics, service development, trainee supervision and research to achieve improved health outcomes for children and youth in SWSLHD. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate experience and expertise in child protection, child development/behaviour and an understanding of the population health challenges in the district. Experience in research and evaluation would be regarded favourably.

What You'll be doing
To provide clinical management and treatment of patients in a SWSLHD facility under your care, with a focus on vulnerable children and youth. This care will be provided within clinical privileges granted by the CE on the advice of SWSLHD Medical and Dental Appointments Advisory Committee.

SWSLHD Primary & Community Health provides a comprehensive range of community-based services designed to improve and maintain the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities across South Western Sydney.
These services include prevention, early intervention, assessment, acute and post-acute treatment, health maintenance, and continuing care. The team supports diverse populations, offering specialised programs for children, young people, older adults, and at-risk communities.
With over 800 dedicated staff, including Aboriginal Health Workers, nurses, doctors, and allied health professionals, the service ensures high-quality care close to where people live.

1. Current medical practitioner, registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and/or other specialist recognition as provided under the Staff Specialists (State) Award.
2. Demonstrated current clinical practice of a high standard and ability to adapt clinical practice in accordance with contemporary evidence based best practice in the area of Community Paediatrics and Developmental/Behavioural Paediatrics.
3. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
4. Demonstrated participation in teaching and training at undergraduate and/or post graduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.
5. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education and development, including evidence of participation in continuing medical education/ continuing professional development.
6. Demonstrated ability to comply with the service objectives of a public health organisation, including the provision of services to the local community, effective utilisation of resources, and preparedness to participate in the provision of health services at an LHD level..
7. Preparedness to participate in any on-call service, including on-call rosters already existing or established, if requested and credentialed.
8. Evidence of ability to work cooperatively with other staff and practitioners and in a multidisciplinary health care team.
