Job Details
The role involves delivering moderately complex legal services under general supervision, and handling day-to-day responsibilities for legal matters that are moderately complex.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide detailed technical and professional advice on moderately complex problems.
* Engage in strategic planning, program, and project management.
* Work collaboratively with team leaders, senior executive lawyers, and other practice group members.
* Engage with courts, tribunals, and client instructing areas.
* Deliver high-quality legal services that meet client expectations, compliance requirements, and professional standards.
* Achieve personal financial targets contributing to the commercial success of the practice group.
* Develop and maintain client relationships and support the delivery of new services.
* Contribute to marketing activities and support other lawyers in achieving practice group plans.
* Further develop professional legal expertise through participation in development, training, and study opportunities.
Senior Lawyer Responsibilities
* Provide leadership and high-level legal advice in complex legal matters.
* Manage significant legal matters with important government and client implications.
* Supervise and support other practice group members.
* Ensure compliance with APS Code of Conduct and departmental policies in work health and safety, diversity, discrimination, and harassment.
* Contribute to the strategic direction and success of the legal practice.
Qualifications and Experience
For a Lawyer (APS5), generally at least 1-4 years relevant post-admission experience or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. For a Lawyer (APS6), generally at least 2-5 years relevant post-admission experience or equivalent legal experience and knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. For a Senior Lawyer (EL1), generally at least 5 years or more post-admission experience and good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment. For a Senior Lawyer (EL2), generally at least 7 years or more post-admission experience and good knowledge of the Commonwealth legal environment.
Requirements
* Entry in the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia or the roll of barristers and solicitors of the Supreme Court of a State or Territory.
* Australian Citizenship is required.
