About Jobs And Skills Australia

Want to work for an organisation recognised and celebrated for our excellence in leadership, stewardship and innovation? Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) may be the place for you!

As part of a motivated and dynamic organisation, we value being innovative, collaborative, accurate, respectful, courageous, and making a difference.

We are an independent secondary statutory body, within the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations that provides advice and data to the Government on every aspect of the jobs and skills system, to help all Australians realise their full skills potential.

We do this by working with our stakeholders to advise on current vocational education and training, higher education, and migration systems to meet Australia's future skills and workforce needs.

Our people include specialists in policy, data, economics, communications, stakeholder engagement, digital solutions and research who are located across Australia.

We offer a positive, productive and supportive work environment and are committed to providing an inclusive workplace where continuous learning and building skills and professional networks are a priority.

The Role

JSA is seeking a APS5 or APS6 Researcher to join the Inclusive Participation team. Reporting to an Assistant Director, this role is focused on supporting the development of a bespoke and dedicated research program on people with disability. The research program's objective is to develop new evidence, data and advice to inform policy on how we can improve skills and employment outcomes for people with disability.

Key Parts Of The Role

* Supporting and delivering research, analysis and writing on labour market and skills and disability to fill evidence gaps and inform real‐world policy change.
* Working with a dynamic transdisciplinary team of researchers, data analysts, economists and policy officers who are highly motivated.
* Supporting stakeholder and project management activities for the research program.

The role offers a great opportunity to contribute to work that respects and amplifies voices of people with disability in shaping policy for a more equitable and responsive skills and labour market system.

There will also be opportunities to support other intersectional research work including on gender, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, mature age workers and migrants.

We are looking for researchers and analysts from diverse academic, not-for-profit, advocacy and policy backgrounds and encourage all to apply.

Duties And Responsibilities

* Support the scoping and design of research projects to critically analyse workforces and skills dynamics affecting different industries, jobs and cohorts of workers including people with disability.
* Undertake qualitative and quantitative research and analysis using diverse data sources, applying sound judgment to inform evidence‐based advice.
* Prepare, review, and present reports, briefs, and research outputs for a range of audiences, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
* Assist with and, where appropriate, lead stakeholder engagement and coordination activities to build productive relationships, gather intelligence, validate research findings and influence outcomes.
* Collaborate across teams and agencies to achieve strategic objectives, fostering a positive and inclusive team culture.

The level of complexity, responsibility, and decision‐making will be consistent with the Work Level Standards for each classification (APS5 and APS6).

How To Apply

Applications are to be submitted using the department's eRecruit (online recruitment) system.

Please Include The Following In Your Application

* A one‐page pitch (less than 500 words) that tells us the three reasons why your skills, knowledge and experience make you an excellent fit for the Researcher role and the Inclusive Participation team. Try not to duplicate information that can already be found in your resume but do highlight any specific examples or achievements that will demonstrate your ability to perform the role.
* Upload a concise resume (no more than 3 pages) to your application which clearly outlines your work experience, educational qualifications and relevant skills.
* Provide details of two referees who can attest and validate your credentials and suitability for the role.

Eligibility

The filling of this vacancy is intended to constitute an affirmative measure under Section 33 of the Australian Public Service Commissioners Direction 2022. This vacancy is open only to people with disability.

Confirmation May Include

* A certificate or letter from a registered medical practitioner.
* A letter from a Disability Employment Services or Workforce Australia provider.
* A letter from a secondary or tertiary educational institution disability services unit in relation to a recent student.
* Or a candidate may wish to share details of their current approved NDIS plan. Please see the NDIS advice about sharing an approved plan. Note: a NDIS plan expiration date is not an indication of a short‐term disability; funding arrangements are evaluated every 1‐2 years regardless of the permanency of the disability.
* If the above documents are not available, the department may consider accepting a statutory declaration from the applicant.

If you would like support throughout the recruitment process, please reach out to

Note: Evidence of disability does not require specific information about the type of disability – unless the vacancy has been restricted to people with a particular type of disability. The need to confirm you are a person with disability is also not required as part of the application process. Confirmation will be requested prior to the on‐boarding process.
