Position Title
Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Emergency Medicine
Salary AUD - AUD per week or higher negotiable on experience.
The Service
The service is a sub-regional health service and the major provider of health and aged care services in the district. They serve an immediate population of approximately 42,000 and a wider community in terms of more specialised services such as perinatal services, critical care and surgery. The service is an integrated health service providing a broad range of primary, secondary and tertiary services including a comprehensive range of HACC services. Acute services include a full time emergency department, critical care unit, neonatal critical care unit, operating theatres, day procedure unit, oncology and dialysis services in addition to general medical and surgical services and sub-acute services including rehabilitation.
The health service has acute campuses in several locations, community and home support services are provided throughout the area. Residential aged care services are provided also.
The Emergency Department has approximately 17,000+ attendances pa with a complexity mix similar to other sub-regional health services in Victoria.
The Emergency Department facilities include 2 resus bays, 4 cubicles and 2 treatment rooms. The Emergency Department is supported by a range of Junior Medical Officers and Senior Medical Officers as well as highly skilled nursing staff. There is a Monash University Medical Clinic School onsite and Medical Students are based at the campus. The Health Service also conduct and have access to a range of education including clinical skills session in the onsite skills lat and Medical Practitioner lead education for Junior Medical Staff.
Decision making / delegation
This position is at operational level and will have input into planning and decision making processes as part of the service team. The position reports to Director of Emergency Services and Critical Care who holds a delegated authority to the level of Department Head / Manager in accordance with the services Instrument of Delegation.
The work context
The position provides medical services within the ED, but also crucial "on-the-floor" leadership to ED and hospital junior medical staff, i.e. : Interns, Hospital Medical Officers (HMO's), and International Medical Graduates (IMG's). This is achieved in conjunction with the Director of Emergency Services and other ED Senior Medical Officers. On site Registrar and Consultant support is provided in General Surgery, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Anaesthetics.
Requirements
Eligible for general registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
Certificate or Diploma in Emergency Medicine or equivalent capability.
Certification in ELS and either EMST, ACME, EMAC, APLS or APEM or equivalent preferable.
