Details: The City and Environment Directorate (CED) is seeking motivated Operations Support Officers / Contract Supervisors to support the delivery of high‐quality maintenance and management of Canberra's public open spaces and urban assets.
In this role, you will oversee service contracts, undertake field inspections, and monitor contractor performance to ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with legislative, policy and contractual requirements. You'll work closely with internal teams, service providers, and the community, contributing to well‐maintained, safe and accessible places for Canberrans.
This is a hands‐on role ideal for someone who enjoys combining technical work with stakeholder engagement and field-based activity.
What We Are Looking For
You will have:
* Demonstrated experience or technical knowledge in urban open space management, asset maintenance or a related field
* Experience or exposure to contract management and procurement processes
* The ability to undertake field-based work and make evidence-based decisions
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing
* The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
* A customer‐focused approach and commitment to ACTPS values
Eligibility/Other requirements:
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in urban land management, natural or cultural resource management
* Experience or qualifications in government procurement or contract management
* Knowledge of landscape construction, horticulture or arboriculture
Mandatory Requirements
* Current Class C (or higher) driver's licence
* Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au)
* Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
* Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required before commencement, for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT
* Mandatory Crystalline Silica Exposure Training: Evidence of completion of training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation for Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention is required prior to commencement. For further information refer to: WorkSafe website
* Ability to undergo a pre‐employment medical (for applicants new to CED)
Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
