About Us
The Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People (the Commissioner) is an independent statutory authority established under the Children and Young People (Oversight and Advocacy Bodies) Act the Act).
The Commissioner and associated team are dedicated to advocating for the rights, development, and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people across South Australia, with particular attention to those who are vulnerable or unheard.
The Commissioner plays a systemic advocacy role, providing independent advice and recommendations to Ministers, state authorities, and non-government organisations. This includes undertaking or commissioning research, and publishing reports on matters that impact Aboriginal children and young people at a policy and service delivery level.
Engagement with Aboriginal communities, families, and organisations is central to the Commissioner's work. The office seeks to promote the active participation of Aboriginal children and young people in decisions that affect their lives. The Commissioner also works in partnership with the Commissioner for Children and Young People and the Guardian for Children and Young People to ensure that the interests of Aboriginal children are meaningfully reflected in broader systemic advocacy efforts.
The work of the Commissioner is grounded in principles of self-determination, cultural safety, and accountability, aiming to influence lasting change in the systems and structures that impact the lives of Aboriginal children and young people.
About The Role
The Communications and Community Engagement Officer supports the Commissioner for Aboriginal Children and Young People by coordinating and delivering efficient project, administrative and communications services to ensure the smooth operation of the office and achievement of key objectives.

A relevant tertiary qualification in marketing, public relation, communications, journalism or related discipline.
Special conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.
The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration
ASO4 $76,561 - $80,256 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (12%) and leave loading
