Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) stands at the forefront of Aboriginal health in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Since 1986, we have been the voice of Aboriginal health and wellbeing, uniting our Member Services to advocate for and provide comprehensive healthcare solutions that honour Aboriginal culture and knowledge.

The Role of the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Counsellor

As a Social and Emotional Wellbeing Counsellor / Case Worker, you will play a pivotal role in delivering compassionate care to community members affected by distressing circumstances, such as the recent flooding. Reporting to the Clinical Lead, you will collaborate with the Emergency Response Multi-Disciplinary team, ensuring that individuals receive the tailored support they need to navigate their emotional and psychological challenges.

In this role, you will employ a client-centred, trauma-informed approach to provide counselling services that address a spectrum of issues including grief, trauma, domestic violence, and relationship concerns. By fostering resilience and promoting cultural healing, you will make a profound difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

We are seeking a dedicated individual who embodies the following qualities:

* A qualification in counselling, social work, or related fields, or equivalent lived experience in supporting Aboriginal communities.
* A deep understanding of the cultural and emotional landscape affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Experience in providing trauma-informed counselling, with an emphasis on culturally secure practises.
* Strong interpersonal skills that foster collaborative relationships with clients, families, and other service providers.

Your commitment to cultural safety, along with your ability to adapt and respond to the unique needs of individuals and families, will be essential in promoting holistic wellbeing. You will engage in community outreach and support initiatives that enhance traditional healing pathways and encourage community connection.

Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services is an organisation that truly values its team, and is committed to improving employee knowledge, skills and experience. In addition, staff development programs are not only encouraged but are often paid for by KAMS. This is a highly attractive opportunity for people with an interest in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, to make a real difference in local communities.

For your hard work and dedication to this role, you will receive a base salary of $90,929 per annum pro rata + super. This is a full time, fixed term contract of 12 months.

In addition to this salary, you will have access to a further host of benefits, including:

* Accommodation allowance of $13,000;
* Electricity allowance of $1,440 p.a;
* mobile allowance $100 /month
* District allowance of $2,920 p.a. (single) or $5,840 p.a. (double);
