CFMEU (National Office, C&G Division) is looking for an experienced and passionate Industrial / Legal Officer.

The Construction & General Division of the CFMEU (the Union) is Australia's main trade union in the building and construction industries.
The Union has offices in all capital cities and has over 100,000 members across Australia.
The Union is dedicated to protecting the lives and improving the conditions and wages of construction workers.
About the role
The Construction & General Division of the CFMEU is looking for a full-time National Legal / Industrial Officer based in its Adelaide office.
The successful candidate will work in a team of dedicated legal/industrial officers committed to the values and principles of unionism, and advancing the cause of the CFMEU and its members.
The position will report to the Director of the National Office, Legal and Industrial and will undertake a range of industrial, legal and policy work.
Key Responsibilities:
Providing legal advice to Divisional Branches;
Handling inquiries and advising Divisional Branches of developments in industrial law, modern award interpretation, and other relevant areas;
Case preparation, management and appearances in the Fair Work Commission and Federal Courts (including briefing external law firms and direct briefing Counsel) in litigation matters;
Researching and writing submissions on legal, industrial and policy matters that affect the construction industry; and
Attending to union governance matters, including rule changes and other registered organisations law matters.
Experience and/or a strong understanding of the Fair Work Act **** is essential.
Experience with the building industry Modern Awards and the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act **** would be desirable.
What the right candidate will bring
The ideal candidate would have the following attributes:
A Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor with current practicing certificate;
Previous experience in a union office or a labour law firm will be highly regarded;
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Adobe and related programs;
Evidence of a commitment to union values;
A demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as in a small team.
