A well-established school based in Springfield is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Finance Manager to play a key role in financial stewardship and operational performance.
Reporting to the Business Services Manager and working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Executive team, this role is responsible for ensuring strong financial governance, compliance, reporting, and support across finance, funding, and payroll operations.
As Finance Manager, you will ensure the effective management of the school’s finances to support both short- and long-term strategic goals. You will oversee accounting processes, financial reporting, compliance, budgeting, funding acquittals, and payroll, while contributing to continuous improvement of systems, controls, and policies.
Key responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day financial operations including accounts, payroll, cash flow, debt management, and reconciliations
* Prepare annual budgets, financial plans, monthly management reports, forecasts, and variance analysis
* Ensure compliance with all statutory, taxation, and regulatory requirements (including BAS, PAYG, superannuation, GST and FBT)
* Liaise with external auditors and manage audit and statutory reporting processes
* Support funding compliance, financial acquittals, and reporting for Government or grant-funded programs
* Maintain asset and depreciation registers and assist with leasing and asset management
* Oversee commercial and operational financial activities as required
* Support HR and payroll administration, including staff records, leave, awards, and enterprise agreements
* Contribute to policy development, internal controls, and financial governance frameworks
You will bring:
* Strong knowledge of financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls
* Experience with payroll, HR administration, and funding acquittals (highly regarded)
* High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and a collaborative working style
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with executive leadership
* Tertiary qualifications and/or experience in accounting, business or a related discipline.
* Experience with accounting software and TASS (The Alpha School System) will be highly regarded; however, experience with other accounting systems and a demonstrated ability to adapt to new platforms is also valued.
* Working with Children Suitability Card (Blue Card) or willingness to obtain one.
