Job Description
THE ROLE
We are seeking an experienced and detail‐driven Senior Payroll Officer to lead our payroll function and support key financial processes. This standalone role offers variety and ownership, with responsibilities spanning payroll processing, reconciliations, and financial reporting. Reporting to the Finance Manager, your key responsibilities will include:
* Owning and managing the end‐to‐end payroll function for approximately 350 team members across salaried and enterprise agreement arrangements
* Processing fortnightly payroll accurately and on time, including allowances, deductions, adjustments and terminations
* Maintaining and administering payroll systems, including pay elements, leave types and system rules
* Ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation, including PAYG, Superannuation, Single Touch Payroll and the GCCEC Enterprise Agreement
* Maintaining strong payroll controls, including payroll audits, audit trails and approval processes
* Preparing payroll‐related reconciliations, accruals and reporting (including leave, superannuation and payroll tax)
* Providing payroll reporting and insights to support budgeting, forecasting and workforce planning
* Acting as the key point of contact for payroll‐related queries across the business
* Interpreting and applying awards, enterprise agreements and payroll legislation
* Identifying and implementing improvements to payroll processes and systems
* Maintaining up‐to‐date payroll procedures and supporting business continuity of the function
* Supporting month‐end and year‐end processes, including journals and reporting
ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
* Demonstrated experience in end‐to‐end payroll in a standalone capacity
* Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, superannuation, taxation and compliance requirements
* Proven ability to interpret and apply awards and enterprise agreements
* Experience with payroll and time & attendance systems (ELMO and Humanforce highly regarded)
* Strong Excel skills, including working with large datasets, reconciliations and analysis (Power Query highly regarded)
* High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and problem‐solving
* Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast‐paced environment
* Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
* A proactive approach, with a focus on improving processes and systems
* Discretion and professionalism when handling confidential information
