As we enter an exciting new chapter, we're bringing our design‐led, lifestyle‐driven approach to hospitality with a growing portfolio of premium venues, led by the highly anticipated reopening of The Angel of Malvern and The Saint, St Kilda.
From contemporary dining spaces to vibrant community hubs, our venues combine modern luxury, timeless charm and commercial discipline - creating places that locals love and teams are proud to build.
We're now seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Controller to help shape the financial performance, systems and governance of our hospitality platform as we continue to grow. This is a hands‐on role, suited to someone ready to roll up their sleeves, do the hard work and be part of something genuinely rewarding.
About the Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to join Refinery Group at a formative stage and play a key role in building the financial foundations of a standalone hospitality business.
Reporting to the CEO (Hospitality), you'll be a trusted advisor and leader across reporting, controls, forecasting and commercial performance.
You won't be stepping into a \"business as usual\" finance role. You'll be building systems, processes and frameworks from the ground up - work that will be demanding at times, but incredibly rewarding as you help shape a business designed for long‐term success.
This role is ideal for a proactive, commercially astute finance leader who enjoys partnering with operators, influencing decisions and building high‐performing teams in a fast‐paced, evolving environment.
What You'll Do
* Partner with the CEO Hospitality and leadership team on strategy, performance and growth initiatives
* Provide clear financial insights, feasibility analysis and financial modelling to support operational and investment decisions
* Deliver accurate management accounts, budgets, forecasts and rolling projections
* Monitor performance, analyse variances and drive continuous improvement
* Maintain strong internal controls, governance frameworks and cash flow management
* Lead system improvements, reporting enhancements and cost control initiatives
* Oversee payroll, tax, statutory compliance and external advisors (experience with Tanda and Tanda Payroll will be highly regarded)
* Manage banking, funding, capital expenditure, project feasibilities and financial due diligence
As a hands‐on finance leader, you will build and develop a high‐performing hospitality finance team as we grow and scale - leading from the front and embedding best practice across the business.
About You
You're a commercially savvy finance leader who thrives in dynamic, growing environments. You're not afraid of hard work and enjoy being in the detail, building from the ground up and seeing the tangible impact of what you create.
You enjoy working across operations and at an executive level, translating numbers into meaningful insights and building systems that support long‐term success.
You'll also bring:
* Experience in a senior finance role, within hospitality, and/or multi‐site environments
* Strong background in management reporting, budgeting and forecasting
* Experience with Tanda and Tanda Payroll is highly desirable
* Experience improving systems, controls and governance frameworks
* Proven ability to partner with senior leaders
* A proactive, solutions‐focused mindset
* Strong leadership and people management capability
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or Commerce
* CPA, CA or equivalent (preferred)
Why Join Us
* Take a rare opportunity to shape the financial future of a fast‐growing, design‐led hospitality group
* Be part of something being built from the ground up - where the work is real, the pace is fast and the impact is tangible
* Play a pivotal role in bringing iconic venues to life, creating destinations the community will love
* Join a high‐performing, values‐driven team where your expertise directly influences growth, strategy and performance
* Advance your career with long‐term development opportunities across our expanding hospitality portfolio
