The Department of Customer Service (DCS) is a service provider, regulator and central agency of government. The Better Regulation Division (BRD) safeguards the rights of all consumers and advises business and traders on fair and ethical practice. The BRD along with the Office of the Building Commissioner (OBC) is delivering once in a generation reform of the building and construction industry.
Reporting to a Managing Lawyer you will provide timely, high quality legal services within a team of litigation solicitors advising DCS, BRD and the OBC. Our key client areas regulate the building and construction industry. BRD also regulates many other areas including retail, the provision of goods and services, motor dealers and repairers, charitable fundraising and incorporated associations.
**If successful, your key responsibilities will include**:
- Providing timely, high quality legal advice including on proposed orders under the Residential Apartment Buildings (Compliance and Enforcement Powers Act 2020) and the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020.
- Providing timely, high quality legal advice on prospects of success in criminal and civil matters across a range of legislation administered by DCS.
- Drafting documents including advices, pleadings, submissions and other court documents, preparing transactional documents, reviewing, drafting and negotiating documents, drafting briefing notes and correspondence.
- Conducting criminal prosecution and/or civil matters in the Local Court, the District Court, the Land and Environment Court, the Supreme Court and the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal and briefing and instructing counsel where appropriate.
- Providing timely, high quality legal advice in respect of priority investigation matters.
- Analysing and interpreting complex legislation and participating in legislative projects.
- Assisting clients and other key stakeholders on a range of matters by providing timely, high quality legal advice that supports those clients and key stakeholders.
- Contributing to the maintenance and update of systems, ensuring the integrity of data and consistency of legal services.
- Assisting in developing and delivering guidance or training material to clients and key stakeholders.

- Hold or eligible to hold a valid practising certificate in New South Wales
