Stornoway is seeking expressions of interest from suitably experienced candidates who wish to be considered for our statewide General Manager – Maintenance Services role based out of our Cambridge Depot in southern Tasmania.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a high-performing executive with broad business management capability and experience in the civil maintenance or construction industry. The successful candidate will bring strong commercial judgement, leadership maturity and a proven ability to drive organisational performance, culture and people outcomes.
As General Manager – Maintenance Services, you will play a central role in leading the day-to-day operations of the businesses Maintenance Services and Traffic Management divisions, supporting strategic growth, strengthening internal capability and ensuring the organisation continues to perform effectively across all applicable key areas.
About the role
Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive level role will be responsible for overseeing business operations, leading teams, implementing strategic priorities and ensuring the effective management of people, plant, productivity, performance, contract deliverables and resources throughout the Maintenance Services and Traffic Management division.
This position requires a well-rounded leader who can balance strategic oversight with operational delivery and who understands the critical role that people and culture play in business success.
Candidates will require the technical expertise to confidently and competently assume a variety of high-level accountabilities. These include -
Leadership & Team Management
* Lead, mentor and develop the state-based teams
* Drive a culture of accountability, safety and high performance
* Support recruitment, capability development and performance management
Commercial & Financial Management
* Manage financial performance across the two divisions
* Oversee budgets, forecasts, margins and cost control
* Review and approve major divisional operational and procurement strategies
Contract & Risk Management
* Contribute to the negotiation of, and compliance with, commercial agreements and/or requirements
* Contribute to contract negotiations, variations and claims
* Manage and mitigate divisional risks and disputes
Safety & Compliance
* Champion a strong safety culture across the division and the company
* Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and Australian Standards
* Monitor and drive safety performance outcomes
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
* Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants and partners
* Act as a senior escalation point for key issues
* Support high-quality, reliable contract delivery
Business Growth & Improvement
* Identify and support new divisional and business opportunities
* Contribute to tender strategies, processes and materials
* Drive continuous improvement and best practice across teams
About you
To succeed in this role, you will be an experienced senior leader with demonstrated capability in general management and a strong background in leadership. You will be confident leading people, managing change and aligning business operations with organisational goals.
You will ideally bring:
* Proven experience in a General Manager or similarly senior leadership role
* Strong people, business and operational leadership skills
* Demonstrated ability to lead teams and drive performance across multiple functions
* Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and decision-making capability
* Strong understanding of compliance, contracted service delivery, and business improvement
* A practical, strategic and people-focused leadership style
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Management, Human Resources or a related field
