Location: Perth – Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people
Roster: 4D,4N,8R (12-hour shifts)
The Energy Operator's key accountability is to remote operations to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power system. This includes working with key internal and external stakeholders across multiple sites to coordinate the operation of generation, transmission and distribution systems in meeting the growing energy needs of our mining business and support Fortescue's decarbonisation pathway.
The role demands a strong focus on teamwork to achieve required outcomes and the promotion of high operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform real-time monitoring and remote operations of Fortescue's power system in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner.
* Use knowledge and experience to develop, coordinate and implement plans to restore faults during emergency conditions.
* Identify and respond to incidents, emergencies, abnormal failure of network assets on the transmission, distribution networks and perform remedial actions in a timeframe to mitigate any threats to safety, continuity, and quality of supply
* Check and execute approved switching programs/schedules during planned outages.
* Execute System Emergency Response strategies, including the Blackout Procedure.
* Contribute to and assist in the development, maintenance, training, and implementation of systems used in Power System Operations.
* Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement of guidelines, processes, procedures, systems, and outputs.
Qualifications and Experience
* Electrical trade certificate to cert III level or Electrical Diploma, Advanced Electrical Diploma or Degree in related engineering or science discipline.
* Valid WA Driver's License Class 'C' or 'C-A'.
* Relevant technical and operational experience in a similar network or generation environment.
* Ensuring operation in accordance with approved safety procedures and practices.
* Candidate shall identify incidents, emergency situations and abnormal conditions and respond to and report.
* Carry out remedial actions to mitigate threats to continuity or quality of supply. Coordinate response in order of priority, considering business implications in decision-making.
* Writing, checking, approving, and executing switching programs for safe, effective and efficient network access to support the delivery of works program.
* Ability to balance against a number of real-time requirements (reliability and security) into their decision-making process while working independently, enabling them to react to planned and unplanned contingencies.
* Keeping up to date and adapting to constantly changing power system and operating systems requirements. The network controller to have extensive system knowledge, be self-motivated, be willing to learn, train others and keep abreast with constantly changing technology.
* Operate the power system within legal and contractual requirements to ensure delivery of risk-managed output, within defined business processes, parameters and statutory limits.
