The Opportunity
As a Scientific Officer (Complex Dissection), this role will support our histology service with a focus on simple and complex surgical pathology. It offers an exceptional opportunity to train in Anatomical Pathology with direct exposure to a wide range of surgical specimens from a range of healthcare providers. You will work closely with other laboratory staff and our pathologists to deliver high quality diagnostic outcomes and contribute to continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
* Promote and Display our core values at all times.
* Perform macroscopic dissection (cut up) of surgical specimens under Pathologist supervision
* Attend educational sessions/training internally and externally
* Collaborate closely with laboratory staff and Consultant Pathologists
* Engage in quality improvement and/or other projects as required within the department
Applicants should possess the following:
* A relevant degree in Medical Science (or equivalent)
* Demonstrated experience in specimen dissection in an anatomical pathology laboratory
* Sound knowledge of anatomy, histology and pathology terminology
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy in specimen handling and documentation
* Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
* Demonstrated personal qualities including effective communication skills, motivation, initiative, time management and commitment to professional development.
* Strong interest in diagnostic anatomical pathology particularly in gross dissection and surgical pathology
