The opportunity
An Australian Government agency is seeking an experienced Strategic Communications Manager (EL1 equivalent) for a 12‐month contract, supporting Australia's international development and humanitarian program.
This role suits a senior communications professional who can combine strategic thinking with hands‐on delivery in a complex policy environment, working closely with NGOs, civil society partners and Australia's overseas post network.
The role
You will play a key role in shaping how Australia's international development program is communicated, including:
* Articulating program outcomes and impact
* Explaining why the program matters domestically and internationally
* Communicating how Australia partners with NGOs and civil society
Working closely with policy and program teams, you will deliver high‐quality communications products and provide trusted advice to senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and implement strategic communications plans and narratives
* Produce clear, high‐quality communications materials, including internal communications, stakeholder messaging and briefings
* Translate complex and sensitive policy issues into clear, accessible language
* Provide strategic communications advice to senior leaders
* Identify opportunities to strengthen internal engagement and public diplomacy
* Collaborate across teams and manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment
About you
You are a confident, senior communications professional who operates comfortably at EL1 level and can work with minimal supervision.
Essential requirements
* Proven experience in internal communications
* Experience working on international development or aid‐related communications
* Demonstrated experience within government
* Strong strategic planning, writing and stakeholder engagement skills
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications or a related field
Experience working with NGOs, humanitarian programs or civil society organisations will be highly regarded.
Working arrangements
Full‐time attendance is preferred, with some flexibility available. An NV1 security clearance is mandatory at commencement.
Casual Loading
Please note for all Australian based contract and temporary roles only, the pay rate is inclusive of mandatory 25% casual loading. This excludes permanent and fixed term roles.
