Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join a fast-paced enterprise IT environment.
You will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, ensuring high availability, security, and consistent performance across environments.
The ideal candidate has a solid background in managing SQL databases in enterprise settings, is comfortable troubleshooting complex issues, and is passionate about ensuring database systems remain reliable, optimised, and secure.
Key Responsibilities Install, configure, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server instances (on-premise and/or cloud) Monitor database performance and proactively optimise slow-running queries and indexing Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies Ensure database security by managing roles, permissions, and encryption Perform database migrations, upgrades, and patching Automate routine DBA tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or equivalent tools Work closely with application developers to support efficient database access and performance Maintain documentation of database configurations, policies, and procedures Monitor and respond to database alerts and incidents in a timely manner Participate in capacity planning and database growth forecasting Support business continuity and high-availability strategies (e.g. AlwaysOn, clustering, replication) Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance
Required Skills & Experience 5+ years' experience as a SQL Server DBA in medium to large enterprise environments Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server ******************* (including SSMS, SSIS, SSRS) Strong T-SQL scripting and performance tuning capabilities Familiarity with Azure SQL, AWS RDS, or hybrid cloud environments Experience with backup tools and strategies (e.g. Veeam, Commvault, native SQL backups) Solid understanding of database security best practices Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Familiarity with ITIL-based support practices
Desirable (Bonus) Skills Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other data analytics tools Knowledge of Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL (nice to have) Exposure to DevOps pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible) Experience supporting large ERP or eCommerce platforms (e.g., SAP, Dynamics, Magento)
