Make a Difference in Someone’s Life
As a volunteer visitor, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the life of an older person who is feeling lonely and/or socially isolated. Our client is a bright, warm woman in her 70s living in Newnham, TAS, who loves words, strategy, and a good game of Scrabble.
The Role:
In this volunteer role, you will be paired with our client to provide regular social support visits in her home. Activities during your visit can include conversation, playing board games, listening to music or sharing stories. You will get to know someone new and build a meaningful friendship.
About the Opportunity:
This is not just about the game – it’s about connection, laughter, and keeping our client’s mind active. Cognitive stimulation is vital for maintaining mental health and quality of life, and something as enjoyable as Scrabble can make a huge difference.
Your Skills and Qualifications:
* Ability to play Scrabble and genuinely enjoy it
* Clear communication skills
* Compassionate, patient, and an excellent listener
* Possess open-mindedness and respect, ensuring the privacy, confidentiality, and dignity of our clients are always maintained
* Comfortable using technology to provide feedback and connect with us
* Availability for a flexible six-month commitment
* Time Commitment: An hour per week or fortnight at a time that suits you and your client
