Lead Estimator - Joinery and Fit-Out
We are seeking an experienced professional to lead our estimating team across a diverse range of custom commercial joinery and interior fit-out projects. This pivotal role requires a strong technical understanding of architectural joinery, exceptional cost planning skills, and the ability to drive estimating excellence that supports project success and business growth.
Main Responsibilities:
* Prepare accurate, competitive, and timely estimates, tenders, and cost plans for high-quality joinery and fit-out projects.
* Review and interpret architectural drawings, joinery shop drawings, and specifications to define project scope, materials, and finishes.
* Liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to source competitive pricing and verify the accuracy of materials and labour costs.
* Collaborate with Project Managers, Production, Financial Controller, and Procurement teams to support cost breakdowns, variations, and procurement planning.
* Identify and pursue new leads and tender opportunities, supporting the preparation of high-quality tender submissions that contribute to winning new work.
* Maintain and continuously improve cost databases and estimating systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
* Cultivate a culture of innovation by identifying cost-saving initiatives without compromising quality or design standards.
* Oversee subcontractor engagement, scheduling, and pricing negotiations once projects are awarded.
* Provide detailed budgets to each cost component (materials and labour) and cost centre.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
* Proven experience in joinery estimating within commercial fit-out, shop-fitting, or office interiors.
* Strong technical understanding of materials, joinery systems, and construction methods.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural and shop drawings with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills across all levels of the project lifecycle.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
* Proficiency with estimating and collaboration software such as Jobman, PDF Editor, Excel, Estimate One and Procore.
* Carpentry or Cabinet Making trade qualification preferred (not essential with strong estimating experience).
* Highly organized with excellent time management and leadership skills.
* A proactive and adaptable mindset with a genuine interest in architecture, design, and construction.
* Proficiency with Excel, using advanced formulas and macros for estimating worksheets.
* Ability to improve and structure current estimating processes.
