Arbiter Group is a boutique structural engineering consultancy based in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. We deliver specialised structural consulting services to a diverse client base, focusing on the causation, prevention, and rectification of structural damage within residential, commercial, and infrastructure assets.
Following five years of steady growth, Arbiter Group is seeking a Structural Engineer to join our expanding team.
The Role
The successful candidate will primarily carry out forensic structural inspections of residential and commercial buildings, prepare engineering reports, and develop engineering designs.
This role involves travel throughout metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, typically to complete three to four site inspections per week. On occasion, interstate travel may also be required.
A valid driver’s licence and Construction Induction Card (White Card) are essential for site access.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
- Current driver’s licence and White Card
- 2+ years of local engineering experience
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SPACE GASS and/or Structural Toolkit
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with Australian building codes and standards
- Strong written communication skills (especially report writing)
- Keen interest in residential structures and building pathology
- Excellent time management and organisational skills – ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small team environment
- Robust interpersonal skills for managing a range of stakeholder relationships

Task & Responsibilities
- Conduct forensic and structural inspections of residential and low‑rise buildings
- Diagnose and explain the causes of structural damage in clear, accessible language
- Develop remediation strategies and scopes of works
- Undertake unbiased forensic assessments for various stakeholders
- Prepare structural drawings and design documentation using AutoCAD, SPACE GASS and Structural Toolkit
Qualification & Experience
- Undertaken further training or self‑directed learning in structural engineering software such as SPACE GASS, AutoCAD or Structural Toolkit
- Shown initiative in developing their technical and professional skills
- A portfolio or printed examples of their previous work – such as structural designs (slabs, footings, trusses, house extensions, etc.) and written reports or essays demonstrating clear, technical communication skills
Salary: $75,000–80,000
