An Australian R&D and manufacturing company developing advanced defence and industrial technologies is expanding its engineering team and now hiring a
Guidance Navigation & Control (GNC)
Engineer to support the development of complex control systems.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and testing path-planning and control algorithms to optimise performance. You will work closely with systems, embedded, and ground control teams to ensure guidance and navigation functions integrate effectively with other subsystems. This position requires strong applied mathematics and software development skills, with hands-on coding in C++ and Python to translate theory into reliable, real-world outcomes.
This is a full-time, Adelaide-based role with excellent access to public transport and parking.
Full relocation is required for interstate candidates; cost assistance is provided.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement algorithms for guidance, navigation, and control functions
* Develop and optimise path-planning and trajectory management solutions
* Integrate GNC software with embedded and control systems
* Conduct simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), and field testing to validate performance
* Analyse system behaviour and contribute to tuning and optimisation
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure robust integration
Requirements:
* Degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Control Systems, or a related engineering discipline
* Proven experience in GNC algorithm design and implementation
* Proficiency in C++ and Python for algorithm development and testing
* Strong foundation in applied mathematics, control theory, and estimation methods
* Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
Desirable but not essential:
* Experience in defence, robotics, or other safety-critical environments
* Familiarity with HIL testing and embedded software integration
* Knowledge of modern C++ practices (e.g., C++17/20) and software quality standards
