The Fisheries division of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries undertakes Aboriginal engagement through capacity building, training activities and partnerships initiatives in aquatic resource management, aquaculture, aquatic biosecurity and building employment opportunities on Sea Country.
As a Sea Country Partnerships Officer, you support the delivery of Fisheries initiatives and extension programs that build Aboriginal capacity and participation in fisheries education, management, research, and compliance activities to foster positive engagements between NT Fisheries, Aboriginal stakeholder groups and fishing sector stakeholders for multi-user outcomes. Your key duties will involve supporting Aboriginal stakeholders by undertaking stakeholder engagement training and capacity building activities including research, monitoring, reporting and compliance to meet Fisheries priorities and caring for Sea Country objectives. You will also administer fee for service contracts and activities to engage Aboriginal Rangers in aquatic resource and Sea Country management activities.
To be successful you need demonstrated experience in developing and delivering engagement and communication plans to people of diverse culture and ethnic backgrounds including Aboriginal people and industry stakeholders. Experience in service or project delivery, including fee-for-service contracts, effective communication and computer literacy skills, and the ability to negotiate stakeholder conflict resolution and influence positive outcomes is essential. On occasion you may be required to travel to remote Aboriginal communities across the NT coastline by 4WD, light aircraft and/or vessels The ability to obtain a four-wheel drive and coxswain certificates and ability to work weekends is desirable.
