Payroll Officer Job Description
We are seeking an experienced payroll professional to join our team. As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing across our organisation, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements and delivering exceptional service to internal stakeholders.
This role offers significant growth opportunities, including potential team leadership responsibilities and providing coverage for the Group Payroll Manager during system implementations and absences.
* Accurate and on-time end-to-end payroll processing of delegated weekly and/or fortnightly payrolls
* Processing complex payroll transactions including terminations, retention accruals and leave reconciliations
* Calculating and lodging monthly and annual payroll tax returns across all entities and multiple states
* Managing superannuation reconciliation and lodgement requirements
* Adhering to single-touch payroll and PAYG requirements with taxation authorities
* Completing complex month-end and year-end reporting and lodgements within statutory timeframes
* Processing payrolls in other jurisdictions and providing manager coverage and approvals
* Maintaining payroll records and internal systems, including setting up new starters
* Liaising with stakeholders on payroll-related queries within defined customer service timeframes
* Documenting and maintaining written procedures while continually assessing processes for improvement
* Assisting with ad-hoc payroll projects, system implementations and integrations
Required Skills and Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will have:
* Diploma qualification in Payroll or Accounting discipline or equivalent is highly desirable
* Minimum of 5 years' experience in medium to large organisations using payroll software, legislative compliance, rostering, and timekeeping systems
* Solid processor with experience with rosters, project work and allowances
* Understanding of Enterprise Agreements (EA's) and interpretation of these
* Experience with payroll tax submission and processing across multiple states
* Proven experience in superannuation reconciliation and lodgement
* Self-motivated and able to take on ad hoc tasks with minimal supervision
* Potential to lead a team and sign off payrolls
* Strong problem-solving capabilities and clear understanding of payroll industry best practices
* Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing
