Centacare North Queensland is a not-for-profit organisation providing counselling, family support, mediation, family dispute resolution, disability services, education and courses, crisis housing and homelessness support, youth services, community engagement, and NDIS services. We serve the North Queensland community from offices in Townsville, Ayr, Bowen, Mt Isa, Cloncurry, and Normanton.

Job Description:

The Family Intervention Worker (FIW) provides practical family support and case management to families involved in the child protection system, assisting them to care for and protect their children appropriately.

Key Responsibilities:

* Build rapport with families while maintaining professional boundaries.
* Complete assessments of family needs through engagement, consultation, and information from tools like outcome star, observations, family history, and child safety case plans. Develop intervention plans based on assessments.
* Provide practical family support strategies and model parenting and household skills to strengthen parenting capacity and foster a positive family environment.
* Maintain regular contact with clients (5-20 hours of support and coordination; minimum twice weekly).
* Provide supervised contact between parents and children as per intervention plans, complete supervised contact agreements, and report following each contact.
* Ensure consistent communication with Child Safety, maintaining all reporting requirements.
* Review intervention goals regularly through outcome star updates and meetings with Child Safety.
* Maintain client files according to agency procedures.
* Work within a trauma-informed and child development framework, utilizing evidence-based interventions.
* Conduct safety assessments and escalate concerns immediately as per policy.
* Participate in team meetings, supervision, and staff development activities.

Skills and Experiences:

* Relevant social services degree and AASW accreditation.
* Ability to impart knowledge using various theoretical frameworks non-judgmentally.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, culturally sensitive.
* Understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and effective communication with Indigenous communities.
* Ability to describe family functioning across diverse cultural contexts and understand impacts of abuse and dysfunction.
* Experience in risk assessments related to family and household safety.
* Organizational, time management, and administrative skills.
* Current open driver's license.
