Position Objective

The Housing Worker will be involved in the initial program set-up and undertake the delivery of crisis accommodation services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children experiencing family violence. This role ensures a safe, supportive, and trauma-informed environment that promotes stability, dignity, and pathways to long-term housing solutions.


Responsibilities

* Initial Program Setup: Involved in property fit-out, stakeholder management, program promotion, establishment of referral pathways, and systems and processes.
* Clinical Services: Undertake intake, assessment, referrals case planning, and discharge for clients accessing the service.
* Client Support: Provide direct support to clients with complex needs, including mental health issues, substance use, domestic and family violence, and financial hardship.
* Case Management: Develop and implement individual case management plans in collaboration with clients, promoting empowerment and self-determination.
* Safety and Wellbeing: Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for clients, ensuring policies and procedures are followed.
* Community Partnerships: Build and maintain relationships with community partners, referral agencies, and support services to assist clients in accessing longer-term housing and wraparound support.
* Service Delivery: Assist with managing occupancy levels and ensure the facility meets service targets and funding requirements.
* Property Maintenance: Assist with property maintenance management, ensuring cleanliness, safety, and functionality of accommodation units.
* Record-Keeping: Ensure accurate and timely record-keeping, data entry, and reporting as required.
* Crises and Emergencies: Respond appropriately to crises, including behavioural incidents and emergencies, using trauma-informed and de-escalation strategies.
* Out-of-Hours Support: Participate in a call roster to support out-of-hours client needs.


Qualifications and Competencies

* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.
* Certificate IV, Diploma or tertiary qualification in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology, or related field.
* Experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Awareness of relevant legislation, such as the Residential Tenancies Act and Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act.
* Demonstrated experience in crisis accommodation, homelessness services, or a similar support environment.
* Understanding of the causes and impacts of family violence and homelessness, including knowledge of trauma-informed care and culturally safe practice.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
* Ability to manage competing demands and work under pressure.
* Knowledge of local housing and support service networks.
* Current Working with Vulnerable People Card and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain).
* Valid driver's license.


Selection Criteria

* Demonstrated experience working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
* Knowledge of relevant legislation, such as the Residential Tenancies Act and Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act.
* Demonstrated experience working in crisis accommodation, homelessness services, or similar support environments.
* Demonstrated understanding of the impacts of family violence and homelessness, including knowledge of trauma-informed care and culturally safe practice.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
