Portfolio Management
Achieve business targets for assigned portfolio to support the achievement of revenue and profit goals via various strategies, including:
* Design and implementation of effective portfolio analysis, profitability, and retention strategies
* Collaboration with stakeholders regarding portfolio management strategy and maintenance of a unified approach with clients; provide feedback and possible solutions
* Monitoring/reporting on the status of open claims for assigned accounts and make recommendations
* Preparation for account reviews with management, demonstrating knowledge of risk, industry, competitive environment, and product capabilities
Underwriting Excellence \& Compliance
Adhere to underwriting, compliance, and file documentation standards and workflows to support the achievement of revenue and profit goals.
* Evaluate and accept or decline new lines, renewals, and endorsements within delegated authority.
* Evaluate and recommend acceptance or declination on risks exceeding authority.
* Recommend account trade-off decisions.
* Provide input to management on profit analysis, premium planning, market, and environment analysis as needed.
Sales \& Marketing Broker and Key Account Management
Achieve individual producer targets as specified in business plans.
* Develop an effective business development strategy to prospect for new business across product lines and client segments. This includes collaboration with key internal stakeholders to maximize sales and marketing outcomes.
* Manage the sales pipeline to identify and develop new business prospects.
Broker and Key Account Relationship Management
* Analyze assigned producers' performance by examining quality, volume, and mix of business by producer. Determine deviations from departmental underwriting and marketing goals; rectify issues and communicate results to management.
* Plan and execute a regular quality underwriting travel program to promote understanding and support for underwriting and marketing goals. Travel involves soliciting new business and presenting to prospective producers.
* Strategically manage resources and expenses associated with these activities.
Key Initiatives and Innovation
Contribute to promoting effective teamwork at all organizational levels.
Engage with internal and external stakeholders to identify initiatives adding value in support of business innovation, success, and growth.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrable ability to proactively identify and implement intelligent solutions to unique underwriting situations.
- Working knowledge of key clients in the organization.
- Understanding underwriting appetites of other departments and associated relationships with interdepartmental clients.
- Judgement, experience, and confidence to make appropriate recommendations for tailoring coverage and manuscripting policies.
- Familiarity with products/services of key competitors.
- Demonstrable capacity and efficacy in utilizing negotiation strategies to achieve constructive business outcomes
- Ability to work well with people and influence decision-making.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications
- Demonstrable ability to effectively train entry-level underwriters and provide orientation and support to new/experienced hires.
