Position Overview
The Casual Pastry Chef supports the Head Pastry Chef and kitchen team in preparing high-quality pastries, baked goods, and desserts that reflect CU29's standards of excellence. This role involves assisting with daily pastry production, general kitchen preparation, and maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment.
The Assistant Pastry Chef will contribute to the creation and execution of menu items, ensuring consistency in flavor, texture, and presentation while upholding the CU29's commitment to quality, creativity, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Pastry & Baking Support
* Assist in the preparation, baking, and decoration of pastries, cakes, breads, tarts, and other baked items.
* Follow established recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.
* Support the Head Pastry Chef in developing new dessert and bakery offerings using seasonal ingredients.
* Maintain consistency and quality across all pastry products.
General Kitchen Assistance
* Support the main kitchen team with food preparation tasks such as washing, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
* Assist in plating desserts and café dishes during busy service periods.
* Ensure all mise en place for pastry and kitchen operations are prepared ahead of service.
* Collaborate with chefs and baristas to ensure smooth coordination between kitchen and café service.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
* Adhere to HACCP, local health regulations, and CU29's food safety and hygiene standards.
* Ensure that all ingredients and finished products are correctly labeled, dated, and stored.
* Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry and kitchen work areas, tools, and equipment.
* Report maintenance or equipment issues promptly to the Head Chef.
Operational & Team Support
* Assist in managing ingredient inventory, minimizing waste, and rotating stock.
* Participate in menu planning, special events, and seasonal promotions when required.
* Support colleagues by maintaining a cooperative and positive team environment.
* Perform other duties as directed by the Pastry Chef or management.

Qualifications & Experience
* Certificate II or III in Patisserie or Commercial Cookery (is required).
* Minimum 2 years experience in a commercial kitchen, bakery, or café environment.
* Basic knowledge of baking, dessert preparation, and general food prep.
* Willingness to learn and develop under the supervision of the Pastry Chef.
* Flexible availability including early mornings, weekends, and public holidays.
