Your new role
As the Principal Financial Accountant, you will lead and manage the Financial and Asset Accounting Services team, ensuring the integrity of financial accounts and internal controls. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will oversee statutory financial reporting, compliance, and financial services functions. You'll be responsible for preparing annual financial statements, coordinating audits, managing asset accounting, and leading the Health Technology Equipment Replacement program. This is a temporary full-time position based in Cairns, leading a team of five professionals, with the potential to transition into a permanent role.
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will bring a deep and comprehensive understanding of accounting standards, financial legislation, and contemporary financial practices, underpinned by substantial experience in financial and asset accounting, statutory reporting, and the implementation of robust internal controls.
We're looking for a highly qualified candidate with CA or CPA accreditation. Experience in local government finance is highly desirable, and strong proficiency in financial management systems and reporting tools is essential to support informed, strategic decision-making.
