Position : Insurance Officer Likely Duration : June to September Salary : $45.04 per hour (including casual loading) plus superannuation Location : Leichhardt Overview To assist the coordinator in the management of Councils insurance policies (excluding Work, Health and Safety Insurance), processing insurance claims in accordance with industry best practice and Councils policies and procedures and assist with the overall management of the Insurance portfolio. Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities: Assist in the development and management of Council’s insurance policy framework including public liability, professional indemnity, motor vehicles, property, officers and personal injury (excluding Work, Health and safety insurance). Provide advice to staff and third parties on insurance claims and insurance policies Assist and provide support to the Insurance Coordinator in managing the Insurance Portfolio, including updating property asset schedules, reviewing claims history and providing advice to the CEO on premium excess levels and renewals. Assist in providing information for Legal specialists acting on behalf of Council in relation to litigated insurance claims. Assist in maintaining efficient and effective processing of insurance claims in line with policies and procedures. Ensure that complete, accurate and current business information records are maintained in relation to insurance claims processing and management via claims databases and other corporate business information systems. Provide regular reports and assessments on management of insurances. Investigate and administer all claims against Council, including undertaking regular claims reviews. Research, advise and make recommendations regarding Council's liability for insurance claims. Review, maintain and advise upon Council's Insurance Schedules. Ensure that the Insurance Coordinator is informed of any issue which may affect the community and/ or service delivery Assist with the management of Council’s insurance portfolio with particular attention to insurance for public liability, professional indemnity, motor vehicles, real property, liability of Councillors and officers of Council, crime, casual hirers of Council facilities, and personal injury. Maintain efficient and effective processing of insurance claims in line with relevant governance instruments Desirable Criteria Understanding of roles and functions of local government Drivers Licence Essential Criteria Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in insurance claims management, business or related field. High level understanding of the principles of risk management. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to deal with conflict and provide excellent customer service. Sound written communication skills, including providing briefings and writing reports based on data. Demonstrated ability to manage diverse relationships at a variety of organisational levels in order to secure cooperation and provide advice. Demonstrated ability to work productively and flexibly as a member of a team. Excellent time management skills coupled with the ability to work well under pressure with multiple issues and competing deadlines.
