Lake Mac City Council has a permanent position available for a qualified and experienced Lifeguard to join our team. Our Senior Beach Lifeguards oversee water safety functions at four patrolled beaches located on the east side of Lake Macquarie: Redhead, Blacksmiths, Caves Beach and Catherine Hill. Key focus areas of the role include monitoring water, land and weather conditions and concentrated observations of the primary areas, first response to medical emergencies, first aid and rescues with the use of appropriate equipment, informing the public to maintain a high safety standard and displaying appropriate signage to minimize risk to beach-goers. The role is also responsible for mentoring and supervising casual lifeguard staff and delivering education programs across our community on beach and water safety.
Hours are based on a 7-day roster with shifts rostered across the beaches within Lake Macquarie and shifts may also involve travel to surrounding areas.
As part of the interview and selection process, candidates will be required to undertake a practical skill and fitness assessment which will assess swimming ability, conditions assessment, watercraft technique, resuscitation technique, fitness level and endurance.
We are looking for experienced Lifeguards with a love for people, safety, fitness and the beach. Our ideal candidates are engaging, professional and personable with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people while supporting, supervising and mentoring our junior lifeguards. With a high level of awareness and excellent customer service skills, you will provide clear direction and advice to team members and beach-goers to ensure high standards of safety, cleanliness and behaviour are maintained to prevent potential issues from arising and for all to enjoy our beautiful beach locations.
You must also meet the following criteria:
Current Apply First Aid Certificate, or equivalent from a registered training provider
Current Advanced Resuscitation Certificate (incl Oxygen and Defibrillation), or equivalent, from a registered training provider
Current Spinal Management Course, or equivalent, from a registered training provider
Certificate III Public Safety (Aquatic Search and Rescue)
Extensive experience in 'feet in the sand' Professional Beach Lifeguarding
Demonstrated ability operating 4WD/ATV and Jet ski
Satisfactory completion of all fitness and skill requirements outlined in Department Local Government – Practice Note 15
Current Working with Children check
Class C Driver's licence

38-hour per week across a 7-day week
