Offer description

We are recruiting for a high-calibre Editor / Head of Content to lead the editorial direction of Professional Planner, Australia's leading publication for the financial advice and wealth management profession.

This pivotal role for an experienced editorial professional combines deep subject‐matter fluency with the range to work across multiple formats — written, audio, and live. You will set and maintain the editorial standard for Professional Planner across its full content output, from long‐form journalism and news to podcasts, event programming, and on‐stage moderation. The role carries significant public‐facing responsibility: you are as likely to be on a conference stage or behind a microphone as you are at a desk.

The successful candidate will bring genuine editorial authority, a nose for what matters in financial services and public policy, and the personal presence to represent the masthead credibly in front of senior industry audiences.

Key Responsibilities
* Setting and maintaining the editorial agenda for Professional Planner across print, digital, audio, and event formats.
* Commissioning, writing, and editing content to a high journalistic standard, with particular focus on financial advice policy, regulation, and practice management.
* Developing and executing a content strategy that serves the needs of advice professionals while advancing public discourse on the issues that matter to the profession.
* Maintaining the masthead's editorial independence and credibility, including legal and ethical decision‐making.
Broadcast & Audio
* Hosting and producing podcasts and video products under the Professional Planner banner, including interview‐driven, commentary and panel formats.
* Developing interview lines, editorial briefs, and production frameworks for audio and video content.
* Identifying guests and storylines that reflect the publication's editorial priorities and audience interests while providing monetisation opportunities.
Live & On‐Stage
* Moderating sessions at Professional Planner events, including the flagship Licensee Summit and Advice Policy Summit.
* Hosting commercial and editorial roundtables on relevant themes across investments, business, regulation and public policy.
* Developing session concepts, speaker briefs, and discussion frameworks in collaboration with the events team.
* Representing the masthead as a public‐facing editorial voice at industry forums and external engagements.
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
* Building and maintaining relationships with senior figures across the advice profession, including licensees, regulators, policymakers, and industry bodies.
* Acting as a trusted editorial interlocutor for contributors, columnists, and subject‐matter experts.
* Consulting to and collaborating with commercial partners and clients without compromising editorial standards.
AI‐Enabled Ways of Working
* Operating fluently within Conexus's AI‐enabled environment, using AI tools to research, draft, summarise, and accelerate content production workflows.
* Identifying opportunities to embed AI into editorial processes to lift output quality and volume without compromising standards.
* Continuously building personal AI capability as the toolset evolves.
About You
* Demonstrated experience in a senior editorial role, ideally spanning written, audio, and live formats.
* Strong writing and editing skills, with a portfolio that evidences range, rigour, originality and voice.
* Confidence and presence on a microphone and on a stage.
* Familiarity with financial services, public policy, or business journalism; deep knowledge of the financial advice sector would be beneficial but not a prerequisite.
* A genuine interest in the regulatory, structural, and cultural issues shaping the advice profession.
* Sound editorial judgement, including the ability to identify what is genuinely newsworthy and what is noise.
* Sense of social justice and consumer advocacy; ability to integrate public interest journalism with actionable insights for business readership.
* Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credible relationships with senior professionals across the industry.
* Demonstrated AI fluency — comfortable using modern AI tools in daily work and motivated to deepen that capability.
* High levels of professionalism and discretion when working with sensitive or market‐relevant information.
* A proactive, independent working style with the ability to drive a content agenda without close direction.
* Cultural fit — we place real weight on this, because a happy and healthy working environment depends on it.
* Experience in financial services media or trade publishing is preferred but not essential; demonstrated range across formats matters more than sector background alone.
