Configuration Manager / Lead
An Australian R&D; and manufacturing company developing advanced defence and industrial systems is expanding its team and now hiring a Configuration Manager / Lead to take ownership of product data management, engineering change control, and design baseline tracking as they transition from development into full‑scale production.
In this role, you will be the key point of control for technical documentation and design data, ensuring every change to product designs is reviewed, approved, and recorded in the company’s product data management (PDM) system. You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to maintain accurate “as-designed” and “as-built” records, ensuring all teams work from the same authorised baseline. This position is central to the company’s pursuit of ISO 9001 accreditation and its commitment to building reliable, production‑ready technologies.
This is a full‑time role based in Adelaide, with full relocation support provided for interstate candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and manage the company’s configuration management plan and processes
- Be the administrator and owner of the PDM configuration management tool
- Ensure all engineering change requests are reviewed, approved, and actioned in a timely manner
- Lead configuration management boards to review and approve design changes
- Produce configuration accounting reports showing current design baselines and as‑built status
- Act as the interface for formal receipt and delivery of technical documentation
- Work with the Chief Engineer to define configuration items (CIs) for all products
- Collaborate with all departments to ensure authorised design baselines are understood and followed
Requirements:
- Background in manufacturing, engineering, or defence projects highly desirable
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Robust organisational skills and attention to detail in managing complex data
- Experience with PDM or PLM systems and structured engineering processes
Desirable but not essential:
- Formal qualifications in engineering, manufacturing, or a related technical field
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and quality management systems
- Prior experience in defence or high‑reliability manufacturing environments
