**Job Description:**
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Officer to join our team in the ARC Industrial Transformation Training Centre GMO. The successful candidate will act as a liaison between governing regulatory bodies to ensure faculty compliance across all activities.
The Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology holds an outstanding reputation for teaching, research, and quality graduates. Comprised of eight schools, 21 centres, and five institutes, the Faculty is responsible for teaching over 8,500 students across three campuses, with a significant contribution to the University's research reputation earning annual revenue above $120 million.
The mission of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Future Crops Development is to train a new generation of researchers equipped with skills in socially responsible crop genetic technologies, leadership, education and training relevant to Australia's agri-biotech sector.
**Responsibilities:**
* Work under the general direction of the ITTC Deputy Director – Industry, liaising with governing regulatory bodies such as the Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) and the UoA Institutional Biosafety Committee to ensure compliance with OGTR licences across all Faculty activities.
* Draw on government, industry and university insight and the training centre's leadership team to drive the transfer of research into tangible outcomes for industry.
* Provide compliance and stewardship advice to staff and students at the Training Centre's UoA node.
* Undertake ITTC audits, monitor and maintain record-keeping for GMO activities and formulate reports.
* Assist in growing and monitoring donor plant material for plant transformation, as well as primary transgenic plants, and support the ARC Centre for Future Crops Development's Postdoctoral Research Fellow with plant transformations when required.
**Required Skills and Qualifications:**
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* Sound knowledge and experience of relevant biosafety legislation, OGTR requirements, GM stewardship programs and the Biosecurity Act.
* Demonstrated ability to generate and grow GMO or genome edited crop plants.
* Demonstrated experience with growing plants under field conditions.
* Demonstrated ability to work with a range of university academics and research staff, enabling them to meet their regulatory requirements.
* Demonstrated experience in maintaining record management systems.
* Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
