Are you an experienced plant operator who takes pride in delivering quality work for your community? We are seeking a Senior Plant Operator to play a key role in building, maintaining, and improving the city's infrastructure and natural assets.
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. From operating heavy machinery and supporting on-the-ground construction, to leading small teams and ensuring safe work practices, you'll be part of the crew that keeps our roads, parks, stormwater systems, and public spaces safe, functional, and looking their best.
Key responsibilities
* Operate a wide range of heavy plant and machinery safely and efficiently (e.g., backhoe, excavator, grader, truck).
* Maintain plant and equipment to the required standard, including daily checks and logbook records.
* Lead, guide and support operational teams on-site, including delegating tasks and sharing technical expertise.
* Read and interpret plans, specifications and survey data to deliver quality outcomes.
* Ensure compliance with Council policies, WHS standards, and Safe Work Method Statements.
* Support continuous improvement through feedback, training and process reviews.
About you
1. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of being a safe, efficient and diligent operator of a range of plant, heavy machinery and equipment delivering the desired quality outcomes for the community.
2. Demonstrated experience in the maintenance of municipal assets.
3. Ability to apply solutions not related to previously encountered situations to address occasionally complex or technical problems with some creativity and originality.
4. Current Tasmanian Medium Rigid (or higher) driver's licence.
5. Certificate III or IV in Civil construction, or significant relevant job-related experience.
Desirable
1. Experience in a Local Government environment.
2. Verification of competency – Plant operation.

* Base salary between $76,948.44 and $88,899.69 will be offered (dependent on skills and experience) + 13% superannuation
