Offer description

Are you a digital storyteller with a passion for community engagement?
Hermann Vorster MP, Member for Burleigh, is seeking a creative, motivated and community-minded full time Assistant Electorate Officer to lead social media content, support media engagement, and help strengthen the connection between the Burleigh community and their local Member of Parliament.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment, enjoys attending local events, and knows how to turn real-life moments into compelling digital content.
Key Objectives
Attend community events - often outside standard business hours - to capture high-quality photos, videos, and social media content in real time.
Plan and produce engaging digital content showcasing local priorities, community stories, and key initiatives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with constituents, community groups and local organisations - both online and in person.
Provide administrative support to ensure the effective and professional operation of the electorate office.
Your Role
Act as the primary contact for media enquiries and assist with media and stakeholder relationship management.
Develop and implement a strategic communications plan across social media, digital platforms, and print media.
Coordinate media activities, interviews, and proactive story opportunities.
Draft and edit communication materials including media releases, newsletters, website updates, opinion pieces and social media posts.
Manage social media channels, ensuring timely, accurate and engaging updates.
Support advertising campaigns across traditional, digital, and video formats.
Assist with planning, coordinating and delivering electorate events, providing on-the-ground support and content capture.
Assist with constituent enquiries, maintaining a respectful and helpful approach.
Undertake other duties as directed by the Member.
What We're Looking For
Availability to work evenings and weekends as required for community events.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a talent for digital storytelling.
Experience in social media management, photography, videography, video editing and basic graphic design.
High level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
Knowledge of Queensland parliamentary or political processes is beneficial, but not essential.
Why Join the Burleigh Electorate Office?
This is more than a communications role - it's a chance to make a meaningful contribution to the Burleigh community. You'll help shape how local stories are told, strengthen community engagement, and support the work of a committed and community-focused Member of Parliament.
