Alice Springs Hospital is recruiting for Emergency Registrars and SRMOs for 2026, with 3‐12‐month contracts available (longer contracts available by negotiation).
Overview
We offer a unique experience in Aboriginal Health – practising high‐acuity medicine in a young population where 80% of patients are Aboriginal. You will see rheumatic heart disease, bronchiectasis, chronic liver disease, overwhelming sepsis, high rates of renal disease and diabetes, as well as significant trauma.
We service an area of over 1 million km2 with around 50,000 presentations a year, a 42% admission rate, median age of 34 years and 22% paediatric presentations.
Training & Support
The ED has Tier 2 and Training stage 4 accreditation for non‐major referral ACEM ED training, which includes your paediatric log book/PER, and offers a supportive training environment. FACEMs are on the floor from 07:30 till 24:00, 7 days a week.
Our ED registrars can also access accredited rotations to Paediatrics, Anaesthetics, ICU, Tennant Creek (Rural and Remote Medicine + Core ED with blended supervision), Retrieval Medicine, as well as a position in Aboriginal Health looking after our Aboriginal Frequent Attender team.
We provide quality protected registrar teaching for 4 hours a week and are highly supportive of primary and fellowship exam candidates. We actively support your WBAs and roster supervised "in‐charge consultant" shifts, as well as providing quality assurance shift skills development. For your TS4 time we will facilitate your audit, guideline, M&M, and presentation requirements.

We are happy to accept applications for 3 + months, including rotations from your home hospital. You may be able to arrange this with your DEMT or Director. We are also happy to accept applications from ACCRM/RACGP registrars looking to undertake their AST or ACEM associateships.
Benefits
Salary is per the NT medical officer's EBA, with professional development allowances and relocation packages available (some allowances dependent on length of contract).
