Communications and Events Officer

Lowitja Institute is seeking a motivated and capable Communications and Events Officer to support the delivery of high-quality communications, media, marketing and event initiatives that strengthen engagement and elevate Lowitja Institute's national profile.
As Australia's only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled health research institute, Lowitja Institute plays a critical role in advancing research, knowledge exchange and outcomes that improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
About the Role
Working within the Communications and Events team and reporting to the Program Manager, Communications and Engagement, this role contributes to the implementation of strategic communications, campaigns and events aligned with the strategic plan.
You will support content creation, digital platforms, stakeholder engagement and event delivery, including the Lowitja Conference, while contributing to a culturally safe and collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in delivering communications, media and marketing activities across digital and print platforms
* Develop and coordinate content for websites, social media, newsletters and publications
* Support campaign planning and implementation aligned with organisational priorities
* Coordinate logistics and provide support for events and conferences (online and in-person)
* Maintain and update digital systems including website and CRM
* Produce and edit communications materials, ensuring quality and brand consistency
* Provide administrative and project support across the Communications and Events program
* Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance engagement
Essential Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated lived experience, connection to and knowledge of the health, wellbeing and self determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
* Demonstrated experience producing digital, print and multimedia assets for communication campaigns
* Ability to communicate effectively in writing, with demonstrated editorial skills to produce content aimed at various audiences
* Strong internal and external relationship skills with the ability to work autonomously with a variety of stakeholders including organisations and suppliers
* Organisational and project management skills with a positive, can-do attitude
* Demonstrated experience supporting events and community engagement
* Highly organised with strong administrative skills and the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet tight timelines under pressure.
Mandatory Requirements
Applicants must demonstrate:
* confirmation of Aboriginality
* relevant vocational or tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience (minimum three (3) years) or extensive experience with specialist expertise or a combination of both
* current Working with Children/Vulnerable People Check
* current Criminal History Check (or willingness to obtain)
* the ability to undertake interstate travel if required and work out of hours.
