The Bigger Picture
At Andromeda Robotics, we’re not just imagining the future of human-robot relationships—we’re building it. Abi is the first emotionally intelligent humanoid companion robot, designed to bring care, conversation, and joy to the people who need it most. Backed by tier-1 investors and with customers already deploying Abi across aged care and healthcare, we’re scaling fast—and we’re doing it with an engineering-first culture that’s obsessed with pushing the limits of what’s possible.
This is a rare moment to join: we’re post-technical validation, pre-ubiquity, and building out the team that will take Abi from early access to global scale
Your Role in the Action
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Andromeda Robotics, you’ll lead the mechanical design and development of Abi—from concept exploration through to production-ready execution. You’ll set the direction for structural, thermal, and actuation systems, ensuring every component meets high standards for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
You’ll work hands-on across CAD, prototyping, and testing, collaborating closely with electrical, software, and design teams to build tightly integrated systems. You’ll lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers, and refine our development processes as we scale. This role demands both strategic thinking and meticulous execution—driving hardware that performs under real-world conditions, at scale.
How You’ll Make an Impact
* Own mechanical design from concept to production, delivering robust, reliable systems that power Abi’s performance.
* Collaborate across electrical, software, and industrial design to integrate motors, sensors, and wiring within tight constraints—without compromising form or function.
* Design joints, mechanisms, and transmissions optimized for mass, stiffness, and cost to ensure smooth, intuitive movement.
* Iterate rapidly through testing, simulation, and reviews to refine real-world performance at every stage.
* Develop documentation, test protocols, and assembly guides to enable seamless scale-up into manufacturing.
* Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of technical excellence and collaboration.
Requirements
What We Are Looking For
* Bachelor’s/Masters/PhD degree in Mechanical, Biomechanical, Robotics, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
* 5+ years of professional mechanical engineering experience (beyond internships or co-ops), with a focus on mechanism design and manufacturability
* Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, OnShape, or equivalent) for complex geometry
* Experience using FEA, simulations (e.g., MATLAB), and maintaining clear design documentation
* Hands-on integration of actuators, sensors, motors, wire harnesses, and communication buses
* Demonstrated knowledge of kinematics, dynamics, and advanced manufacturing (e.g., additive, composites) for weight-optimised designs
* Familiarity with PCB design and how it integrates into mechanical enclosures
* Proven ability to select materials and finishes for performance, sustainability, and cost-efficiency
* Experience coordinating with suppliers on specs, timelines, and DFM for mid- to high-volume production
* Ability to conduct in-depth failure analyses and contribute to FMEA processes
Bonus Qualifications
* Experience with design for manufacturing and design for assembly principles.
* Experience developing complex mechatronic assemblies with strain-wave, planetary, or cycloidal actuators
* Professional experience in designing robots or mechatronic systems with multiple Degrees of Freedom
The salary for this position may vary depending on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package may also include additional benefits or components based on the specific role. Details will be provided if an employment offer is made.
