About our client
Our client is delivering a large-scale, mission-critical infrastructure transformation programme of national significance, focused on modernising core platforms within a highly secure and regulated environment.
This is a next-generation network transformation, involving the redesign and implementation of enterprise-scale architecture across multiple data centres, secure zones and high-availability environments.
The programme includes a complex transition from VMware NSX-T to Cisco ACI, alongside large-scale compute, storage and VDI transformation. It is being delivered across multiple concurrent workstreams, requiring strong architectural leadership to ensure alignment, consistency and security across the entire platform.
Operating within a Defence-aligned environment, the network forms the backbone of mission delivery — meaning architecture decisions made here will directly impact performance, resilience and security of critical systems for years to come.
About the role
You will define and govern the target-state network architecture, taking ownership of design decisions across one of the most complex areas of the programme.
This is not a pure design role — you will sit at the intersection of strategy, architecture and delivery, ensuring that designs are both robust and executable within a live transformation environment.
Key responsibilities
* Define and lead the NSX-T to Cisco ACI migration strategy, including policy translation and design principles
* Design segmentation and micro-segmentation models, ensuring alignment with security and compliance frameworks
* Establish network architecture standards, patterns and governance controls
* Review and validate designs across network, compute, storage and VDI workstreams
* Provide technical leadership and direction to network engineers and delivery teams
* Act as the escalation point for complex design decisions and trade-offs
* Ensure the network architecture supports high availability, performance and secure access across multiple sites
* Engage with senior stakeholders to clearly articulate risk, design decisions and architectural direction
This is a critical role within the programme, shaping not just the network, but the success of the broader transformation.
The successful candidate
You are a senior network architect with a strong track record delivering enterprise-scale transformation in secure, complex environments.
* Deep expertise across VMware NSX-T and Cisco ACI (design, policy, segmentation)
* Proven experience leading large-scale network transformations or data centre modernisation programmes
* Strong understanding of micro-segmentation, policy translation and secure architecture patterns
* Ability to operate across both strategic architecture and hands-on design validation
* Highly credible with both technical teams and senior stakeholders
* Experience in Defence, Federal or other regulated environments highly regarded
Mandatory requirement
* NV2 clearance preferred, or NV1 with NV2 actively in progress (non-negotiable)
What is on offer?
* $200,000 + super + performance bonus
* Opportunity to design and shape the future-state network for a nationally significant platform
* Work on a mission-critical programme where network architecture underpins system performance, resilience and security
* High-impact role with visibility across technical leadership and programme stakeholders
* Long-term programme (initial 2-year engagement with strong extension potential)
* Melbourne or Adelaide preferred, with flexibility depending on experience
Why this opportunity stands out
This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where your architecture decisions will directly influence critical infrastructure at national scale.
You will operate in an environment where complexity is high, expectations are higher, and the outcomes genuinely matter — working alongside some of the strongest engineering and delivery teams in the market.
