Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland's Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

- Exploration Geologist

Understanding the geological setting of Steelmaking Coal operations is key to delivering an integrated Geoscience solution that encompasses exploration, geological modelling and operational geology. Steelmaking Coal currently has three defined complexes in which it operates, Northern Region, Central Region and Southern Region. These three regions encompass the Moranbah North and Grosvenor Operations in the Northern Region, Capcoal Operations, including Aquila in the Central Region and Dawson Mine in the Southern Region and include all surrounding Steelmaking Coal tenures.
The Exploration Geologist is accountable for the high-quality delivery of exploration field data acquisitions across operations and exploration tenements.
**Key responsibilities**:
- Undertake safe and efficient delivery of exploration geoscience field activities.
- Follow requirements of landowner agreements and environmental permits.
- Outline hole design to drilling contractors and monitor compliance to design.
- Undertake geological logging, chip and core, following Geoscience Exploration Guidelines and per field instructions.
- Collect, store, prepare sample instructions for the dispatch of samples.
- Ensure geophysical surveys are obtained as per design requirements.
- Monitor the performance of geoscience contractors and service providers.
- Ensure compliance against geoscience standards.
- Contribute to the development exploration programme close out reports as required.
- Check Drilling Activity Reports for accuracy and confirm charges.
- Reconcile borehole execution to hold design.
- Reconcile predicted geological variables to actual.
**Qualifications**:
- To be successful in this role you will have the following:
- Relevant degree in Geoscience with demonstrated Geoscience experience.
- Demonstrated experience in at least one relational data base software package (preferably acQuire).
- Ability to manage multiple scopes of work.
- Basic financial metrics & budgeting/scheduling capability.
- Understand of Coal Mining Safety & Health Legislation.
- Ability to promote a strong safety culture.
- Contractor management experience.
