About Us
Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community-controlled Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health service, providing culturally appropriate, family-centred primary health care services to the communities of Cape York.
About The Role
The Practice Nurse position delivers comprehensive nursing services to the people of Cape York as part of a multidisciplinary team. Responsibilities include providing primary health care, health education, early disease detection, disease management, clinical support, and mentorship.
The position requires applicants to provide contact details or a written reference from an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person willing to support their application.
About You
To succeed, you will have:
Proven experience as a Practice Nurse or Registered Nurse in a Primary Health Care setting.
Demonstrated clinical problem-solving skills at an advanced level.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate complex client care across the Primary Health Care continuum.
High-level nursing knowledge and skills in patient assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
Competence in infection control and cold chain management.
Knowledge of legislation, standards, policies, and procedures relevant to contemporary nursing practice.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including consultation, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to change.
Understanding of issues impacting Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, especially in Cape York.
Effective communication with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people respecting community protocols and customs.
Understanding of the principles of community control.
Willingness and ability to travel in Cape York by light aircraft or 4WD as required.
Mandatory Requirements
Nursing degree qualification.
Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse Division 1.
Queensland Immunisation Endorsement or willingness to obtain it within a specified timeframe.
Current Queensland Driver’s Licence.
Australian Federal Police National Police Check.
Desired
Postgraduate qualification.
Experience in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities, preferably Cape York.
Experience within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO).
