Job Description Parliamentary Counsel, VPS 5.2 $124,888 - $136,747 (plus 12% super) An exciting opportunity exists for an ongoing role as Parliamentary Counsel (Senior Solicitor) with the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel. A Parliamentary Counsel provides legislative drafting, research and advice for the preparation of Bills and House Amendments, including more complex or sensitive Bills, and leads drafting teams and/or projects, reviews drafts and provides feedback. The role also undertakes settling of more complex statutory rules and contributes to continuous business improvement and Office culture by participating in a range of initiatives and projects. The role is located in the Office of the Chief Parliamentary Counsel, an Administrative Office in relation to the Department of Premier & Cabinet, and reports to a Senior Parliamentary Counsel or Executive. The successful applicant must be admitted or qualified for admission by the Supreme Court of Victoria as an Australian lawyer and to hold a current Australian practising certificate issued under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (Victoria). The successful applicant will have substantial experience in the law of Victoria or of another State, Territory or the Commonwealth, as well as proven ability to draft and settle Bills and statutory rules. Sound knowledge of the law relating to statutory interpretation and delegated legislation is also essential. The closing date for this position is 11:59 pm Sunday 23 November 2025.
