About the role
As the Accountant Finance & Assets, you will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of SA Water's asset register, ensuring all fixed asset transactions are recorded accurately and in line with accounting standards, tax requirements and regulatory obligations. You will prepare asset‐related financial statement disclosures, calculate and forecast depreciation, and support annual insurance valuations.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to ensure asset information is complete, reliable and available when needed. The role also contributes to continuous improvement initiatives, including system development, reviewing asset hierarchies and useful lives, and supporting broader infrastructure asset valuation activities.
This is a hands on 12‐month opportunity suited to someone who enjoys problem solving, investigating financial matters, and improving processes in a collaborative team environment.
About Business Insights and Excellence
The Business Insights and Excellence group drives operational excellence by enabling best business practices, economic pricing, financial management, supply chain management, and Risk Governance & Assurance to support the broader business and partners in delivering reliable, cost-effective, sustainable, and future‐focused outcomes.
In addition, your responsibilities will include:
* Maintain and update the fixed asset register accurately and in a timely manner.
* Prepare fixed‐asset components of financial statements and ensure compliance with accounting, tax and regulatory standards.
* Complete depreciation calculations, forecasts and annual insurance valuations.
* Ensure asset policies, procedures and audit trails are understood and consistently applied.
* Provide accurate asset information to internal customers and support audit requirements.
* Contribute to system improvements, asset hierarchy reviews and infrastructure asset valuation processes.
* Build effective networks with other water utilities to support best practice.
* Actively contribute to a culture of service excellence and team collaboration.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
* Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Business or Finance, along with CPA/CA accreditation.
* Strong knowledge of accounting standards and demonstrated experience in asset accounting and reporting.
* Experience working with integrated financial systems, general ledger modules and financial applications.
* Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to resolve complex accounting matters.
* An understanding of infrastructure assets in the water industry (desirable).
* A collaborative mindset, attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
