About the role:
Kordia is looking for a Maritime Systems Operator Level 1 (MSO1) to join our Maritime Services team. In this role, you'll be trained to operate and support critical national safety communications systems that help protect lives at sea, including marine weather broadcasts and distress communications.
You will be working to a 5-week rotating roster doing 12 Hr shifts on days, nights, weekends and public holidays.

What you'll be doing:
With support and supervision from Senior and Supervising Maritime Communications Officers (MSO3/MSO4), you will:
* Train to operate the Maritime Safety Communications System (MSCS) and associated maritime safety platforms
* Support the Bureau of Meteorology marine weather broadcast service, ensuring forecasts and warnings are transmitted accurately
* Assist in operating the Australian Coast Radio VHF/HF Network
* Learn to coordinate and relay distress, urgency and safety communications between vessels and search & rescue authorities
* Monitor and support AU Mission Control Centre and Medium Earth Orbiting Search & Rescue systems, raising fault tickets and reports as required
* Record and inject Maritime Safety Information (MSI) broadcasts into the voice broadcast system
* Accurately log incidents and operational activity into relevant systems
* Prepare monthly operational reports and fault reports for customers
* Maintain accurate timesheets in SAP in line with the roster
Training and development:
This is a development-focused role where you'll be supported to:
* Achieve your GMDSS(Global Maritime Distress & Safety Service)General Operator Certificate
* Build capability and competencies with a pathway to progression as a Maritime Systems Operator Level 2(MSO2)

* Clear communication skills and the ability to deliver accurate handovers
* Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills
* A professional, team-focused approach and willingness to learn
